UltraKote Solid Colour Epoxy System

The UltraKote solid colour system provides a clean, uniform epoxy finish suitable for garages, workshops, warehouses and commercial floors. The appropriate system can be selected based on the condition and moisture level of the concrete.

Two-Coat Epoxy System – Suitable Concrete Slabs

For sound concrete with suitable moisture levels, a two-coat UltraKote Ultrashield system can be used following appropriate surface preparation.

1. Diamond grind the concrete to achieve the required surface profile.
2. Repair cracks, spalling and surface defects.
3. Apply the first coat of Ultrashield according to the manufacturer's application instructions.
4. Once sufficiently cured, inspect the surface, remove debris and vacuum thoroughly.
5. Apply the second coat of Ultrashield. Where additional slip resistance is required, incorporate suitable floating anti-slip media.

Three-Coat System – Moisture Barrier Required

Where concrete moisture levels require additional moisture mitigation, UltraKote Ultra Barrier can be incorporated into the system before applying Ultrashield. Moisture testing should be completed before coating and the manufacturer's limits must be followed.

1. Diamond grind the concrete.
2. Repair cracks and surface defects.
3. Apply the required coats of Ultra Barrier moisture barrier epoxy.
4. Apply the first coat of Ultrashield.
5. Inspect, lightly abrade where required and vacuum before recoating.
6. Apply the second coat of Ultrashield with suitable anti-slip media where required.

If the concrete moisture level is outside the product's permitted range, coating should be postponed until the substrate is suitable for the selected system.

Three-Coat System – Porous Concrete & Pinholes

Highly porous concrete can require additional priming to seal pores and reduce the risk of pinholes in subsequent coatings. UltraKote Ultra Primer is a low-viscosity epoxy primer designed for this type of preparation.

1. Diamond grind the concrete.
2. Repair cracks and surface defects.
3. Apply one or more coats of Ultra Primer as required to seal porous areas.
4. Apply the first coat of Ultrashield.
5. Inspect, lightly abrade where required and vacuum the surface.
6. Apply the second coat of Ultrashield with suitable anti-slip media where required.

UltraKote Epoxy Flake System

The UltraKote flake system combines a coloured epoxy basecoat with decorative flakes and a clear protective topcoat. It is a popular option for garages, workshops, retail spaces and other areas where you want a practical floor with a decorative finish.

A typical UltraKote flake system includes:

1. Primer: UltraKote Ultra Barrier where moisture mitigation is required, or Ultra Primer for suitable prepared concrete.
2. Basecoat: UltraKote Ultrashield coloured epoxy.
3. Decorative flakes: Elite Flakes in the selected colour blend and coverage.
4. Topcoat: UltraKote UVSeal polyurethane or Armafloor 500 AU polyaspartic topcoat.

UltraKote Metallic Epoxy Flooring System

UltraKote Ultra Metallic is designed for creating decorative metallic and marble-style epoxy floors. Metallic pigments are blended into the epoxy coating and manipulated during application to create unique flowing patterns and high-gloss effects.

A typical system includes:

1. Primer: UltraKote Ultra Barrier where moisture mitigation is required, or Ultra Primer for suitable prepared concrete.
2. Base colour: A suitable epoxy pigment paste can be used to establish the base colour.
3. Metallic layer: UltraKote Ultra Metallic combined with the selected metallic epoxy pigments.
4. Protective topcoat: UltraKote UVSeal or another compatible clear protective coating where specified.

Steps to Install an UltraKote Epoxy Flooring System

The installation process varies depending on the selected UltraKote system and concrete condition. Always follow the relevant product technical data sheets for mixing, thinning, application, coverage, recoat windows and curing requirements.

1. Prepare the concrete: Diamond grind or otherwise mechanically prepare the substrate to remove contaminants, weak concrete, existing coatings and surface laitance. Achieve a suitable surface profile for the selected coating system.
2. Repair defects: Repair cracks, spalling, holes and other imperfections using a suitable repair product. For larger repairs, Ultra Mortar can be used for patching, ramping and epoxy coving applications.
3. Check moisture: Test the concrete before coating. If moisture levels require mitigation, incorporate Ultra Barrier or another compatible moisture barrier system where appropriate.
4. Prime the surface: Apply Ultra Primer or the appropriate Ultra Barrier system according to the concrete condition and selected flooring system.
5. Apply the epoxy coating: Apply Ultrashield for solid colour or flake systems, or Ultra Metallic for decorative metallic applications. Follow the manufacturer's specified application method and coverage rate.
6. Create the decorative finish: For flake floors, broadcast the selected flakes into the wet basecoat. For metallic floors, manipulate the wet coating to achieve the desired marble or metallic effect.
7. Apply the protective topcoat: Seal the completed system with the specified polyurethane, polyaspartic or other compatible clear topcoat.
8. Add slip resistance if required: Use floating anti-slip media or aluminium oxide where additional slip resistance is required.
9. Allow the system to cure: Protect the finished floor during curing and follow the manufacturer's requirements before allowing foot traffic, vehicles or heavy equipment onto the surface.
