Flowcrete Resin Flooring Systems
Flowcrete is a well-established range of resin flooring products designed for demanding commercial, industrial and high-traffic environments. At ProTrade Warehouse, we supply selected Flowcrete Australia products including epoxy primers, epoxy coatings, repair mortars and polyurethane protective sealers.
Rather than treating each product as a standalone coating, a resin floor should be selected as a complete system. The right combination depends on the condition of the concrete, required floor thickness, traffic levels, chemical exposure, slip resistance, appearance and whether a protective topcoat is required.
How to Build a Flowcrete Epoxy Flooring System
A typical Flowcrete resin flooring system can be built in several stages. Not every project requires every layer, and the exact specification should always be based on the relevant Flowcrete technical documentation.
- Prepare the concrete: Mechanically prepare the substrate to remove laitance, weak concrete, coatings and other contaminants. Diamond grinding or other suitable mechanical preparation may be required depending on the existing floor.
- Repair the substrate: Repair cracks, damaged areas, holes, joints and other defects before applying the resin system. Flowtex F1 Repair Mortar can be used as part of suitable Flowcrete repair and flooring systems.
- Control moisture where required: Moisture in the concrete can affect resin flooring installation. Where the specified system requires additional moisture protection, a suitable damp-proof membrane or moisture-control layer should be included in accordance with the system specification.
- Apply the primer: Flowcrete Flowprime AU is a two-component, low-viscosity epoxy primer designed for concrete and cementitious substrates. It provides the primed surface required before compatible Flowcrete resin toppings and can help seal porous substrates.
- Apply the epoxy wearing layer: Flowcoat OP can be applied directly to properly prepared concrete where the substrate is sound and not excessively porous. For a standard solid-colour epoxy floor in garages, warehouses, factories and other suitable residential, commercial or industrial areas, the system can consist of two coats of Flowcoat OP in the selected colour. Where the concrete is porous, Flowprime AU can be used as the epoxy primer coat before applying the two coats of Flowcoat OP. For external applications, consider a compatible clear UV-resistant topcoat as the final finishing layer where required. The exact system build-up, coverage rates and application requirements should always be confirmed against the relevant Flowcrete technical documentation and site conditions.
- Add slip resistance where required: Areas exposed to water, oils, traffic or other slip hazards may require anaggregate broadcast or other specified anti-slip finish. The aggregate type, application rate and resulting slip performance should be selected according to the required system specification.
- Apply the protective topcoat: Where additional protection, appearance or UV performance is required, a compatible clear protective coating can be applied. ProTrade supplies Flowcrete polyurethane and clear protective products including Deckshield UV and Flowseal UV.
Some flooring systems require a clear protective layer over the coloured or decorative resin surface. ProTrade Warehouse supplies several Flowcrete finishing products for different requirements.
- Flowtex Sealer: A clear, high-gloss protective sealer suitable for specified internal applications, including over vinyl flake and coloured quartz flooring.
- Deckshield UV: A two-pack polyurethane sealer designed for applications requiring a UV-resistant protective finish.
- Flowseal UV: A clear polyurethane sealer available in a satin finish for suitable resin flooring applications.
- Satin Seal WB: A water-based polyurethane sealer for suitable clear protective applications.
Topcoat selection should be based on the underlying flooring system, exposure conditions and required finish. For example, the Flowtex Sealer is suitable for internal applications and is not recommended for direct external exposure.
Choosing the Right Flowcrete Flooring System
The best Flowcrete system depends on what the floor needs to handle. Consider the following before selecting individual products:
- Floor condition: Is the concrete sound, porous, cracked, contaminated or previously coated?
- Traffic: Will the floor experience pedestrians, forklifts, vehicles or other heavy traffic?
- Slip resistance: Does the area require a smooth finish or an aggregate-based non-slip surface?
- Chemical exposure: Will the floor be exposed to oils, fuels, cleaning chemicals, acids or other substances?
- Moisture: Is there a moisture or vapour issue that needs to be addressed before applying resin?
- Appearance: Is a solid colour, decorative finish, flake system or clear protective finish required?
- UV exposure: Will the floor be exposed to direct sunlight, or is it an internal application?
Flowcrete manufactures a broad range of resin flooring systems for different environments, including high-build epoxy coatings, self-levelling systems, resin screeds, polyurethane systems and specialist flooring solutions. The correct system should be selected according to the project's performance requirements rather than simply choosing an individual coating.
Surface Preparation & Application
Resin flooring performance depends heavily on correct substrate preparation and application. Concrete should be mechanically prepared as required, thoroughly cleaned and assessed before the flooring system is installed. Moisture, substrate strength, surface profile, contamination and existing coatings should all be considered.
Application rates, recoat windows, temperature limits, substrate requirements and curing times vary between products and system configurations. Always follow the latest Flowcrete technical data sheet and the specified system build-up rather than applying products outside their intended system.
Flowcrete Flooring Products Australia-Wide
ProTrade Warehouse supplies selected Flowcrete flooring products Australia-wide, including epoxy coatings, primers, repair mortars, resins and protective sealers. If you are unsure which products are required for your floor, contact our team with the floor area, substrate condition, intended use and required finish so we can help you work through the appropriate system components.
For larger industrial projects or systems outside the products currently listed in our online range, the manufacturer's technical documentation should be consulted to confirm the correct Flowcrete system specification.
