Solid Colour Epoxy Flooring Systems
A successful epoxy floor is built as a system rather than relying on a single coating. The products required will depend on the condition of the concrete, moisture levels, expected traffic and desired finish.
UltraKote Epoxy Flooring System
- UltraKote Ultra Barrier – moisture barrier primer where required
- UltraKote Ultra Primer – epoxy primer for prepared concrete
- UltraKote Ultrashield – coloured 100% solids epoxy coating
- UltraKote UVSeal polyurethane sealer or Armafloor 500 AU polyaspartic topcoat
Sikafloor Epoxy Flooring System
- Sikafloor 161 epoxy primer
- Sikafloor 264 epoxy coating
- Sikafloor 359 AU polyurethane or Sikafloor 550 PA polyaspartic topcoat
For decorative applications, solid colour epoxy can also be combined with epoxy flakes or metallic pigments to create different flooring finishes.
Choose Your Epoxy Floor Colour
Colour selection is an important part of achieving the right finished appearance. View our Epoxy Flooring Colour Chart to explore the available colours and finishes.
Actual colour appearance can vary depending on lighting, substrate condition, application and surrounding surfaces. We recommend checking the colour chart and confirming your selected colour before ordering.
Concrete Preparation & Application
Proper concrete preparation is essential for achieving reliable adhesion and a consistent epoxy finish. Depending on the substrate, preparation may include diamond grinding, mechanical abrasion, repairs and moisture testing. Where required, a suitable moisture barrier or primer should be incorporated into the flooring system.
For Sydney customers, we also offer concrete floor grinder and equipment hire to help prepare existing concrete before coating.

Steps to Install a Solid Colour Epoxy Flooring System
A professional solid colour epoxy floor requires proper preparation and application of each coating layer. Exact products, mixing ratios, coverage rates and recoat times should always follow the technical data sheet for the system being used.
- Surface preparation: Mechanically prepare the concrete using diamond grinding or another suitable method to remove contaminants, weak concrete, existing coatings and surface laitance. The substrate should be clean, sound and suitably profiled before coating.
- Repair cracks and surface defects: Repair cracks, holes and other imperfections using a suitable epoxy repair compound such as Sikadur 31 CFN. Larger damaged areas may require a suitable repair mortar or coving system. Allow repairs to cure as required before grinding and coating.
- Apply the primer or moisture barrier: Apply the appropriate epoxy primer to the prepared concrete. Where moisture mitigation is required, incorporate a suitable moisture barrier primer into the flooring system. Allow the primer to cure according to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Inspect and correct the primed surface: Once the primer has cured, inspect the floor for remaining imperfections, pinholes or uneven areas. Grind high spots and repair low areas where necessary. Ensure the surface is suitably prepared before applying the coloured epoxy and remain within the manufacturer's specified recoat window.
- Apply the solid colour epoxy: Mix the epoxy components thoroughly according to the manufacturer's instructions and apply evenly using the recommended roller, squeegee or application method. Maintain consistent coverage across the floor and back-roll where required to achieve a uniform appearance. Spike shoes can be used by trained applicators when working over wet epoxy.
- Apply the final coat or protective topcoat: Depending on the flooring system and required performance, apply a second epoxy coat or compatible protective topcoat. Polyurethane or polyaspartic topcoats can be used where required. Follow the manufacturer's application and recoat requirements.
- Add anti-slip media if required: For areas requiring additional slip resistance, incorporate a suitable anti-slip media into the specified coating layer. Select the aggregate and application rate according to the required finish and slip-resistance level.
- Allow the floor to cure: Allow the completed flooring system to cure before opening the area to foot traffic, vehicles or heavy equipment. Curing times vary depending on the product and site conditions, so always follow the manufacturer's technical data sheet before returning the floor to service.
