EcoSafe Etch Water-Based Concrete Etching Compound

EcoSafe Etch is a fast-acting, water-based concrete etching compound designed to prepare green and mature concrete surfaces for coatings, sealers and concrete stains. Offering etching performance comparable to traditional hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid), EcoSafe Etch provides an alternative with low odour and no corrosive acid fumes.

Suitable for residential, commercial and industrial applications, this biodegradable concrete etcher clings to both horizontal and vertical surfaces to minimise runoff and product waste. It is ideal for preparing driveways, patios, garage floors, factory floors, warehouses, concrete walls and other cementitious surfaces before applying suitable coatings or sealers.

With water-based chemistry, easy water cleanup and a non-flammable formulation, EcoSafe Etch helps simplify concrete surface preparation while reducing the handling and disposal challenges associated with traditional acid etching products.

EcoSafe Etch Application Instructions

1. Surface Preparation

Protect surrounding surfaces and adjacent areas before application. Ensure the concrete is clean and dry. The recommended surface temperature is 20°C to 32°C. Do not apply to soft or damaged concrete.

2. Dilution Ratios

Dilute EcoSafe Etch with water according to the concrete finish and surface hardness:

  • Rough stipple finish: 1 part EcoSafe Etch to 15 parts water
  • Steel-trowelled finish: 1 part EcoSafe Etch to 10 parts water
  • Hardened concrete or high-MPa concrete: 1 part EcoSafe Etch to 5 parts water

3. Test Area

Test the diluted product on a small, inconspicuous area before treating the entire surface. Assess the etching result, required dwell time and appropriate dilution ratio for the substrate.

4. Application

Pour the diluted solution into a plastic watering can and distribute it evenly across the surface. Spread the product using a nylon brush or broom to achieve consistent coverage. Prevent the solution from drying out during application.

5. Dwell Time and Rinsing

The average dwell time is 15–30 minutes, depending on the surface and dilution ratio. Monitor the test area and rinse as soon as the required etch is achieved. Scrub and rinse thoroughly, or use a high-pressure washer for best results.

6. Cleanup

Flush the treated area thoroughly with generous amounts of water. Follow the product's technical data sheet and applicable environmental requirements for rinsing and wastewater disposal.

Application Equipment

  • Nylon brush or broom
  • Plastic watering can
  • Polyurethane protective sheets
  • Masking tape
  • Suitable gloves and safety glasses
