Crommelin WB2K Water-Based Epoxy Primer, Sealer & Moisture Barrier

Crommelin WB2K is a two-component, waterborne epoxy primer, sealer and moisture barrier designed to protect concrete and masonry surfaces while helping control moisture migration. Combining the adhesion and durability of epoxy resin with the convenience of a water-based formulation, Crommelin WB2K is suitable for a wide range of residential, commercial and industrial applications across Australia.

Designed for use as both a positive-side and negative-side moisture barrier, this versatile epoxy coating helps control rising damp and moisture vapour transmission before the installation of compatible waterproofing membranes, floor finishes and other coatings. It can also be used as an abrasion-resistant concrete floor sealer in areas requiring a tough, impervious protective coating.

Reliable Moisture Control for Concrete and Masonry

Crommelin WB2K is suitable for applications involving concrete floors, basements, tunnels, foundations, retaining walls, planter boxes, balconies, podium decks and water-retaining structures. It can also be used as a moisture vapour barrier beneath timber flooring, subject to confirmation of system compatibility and project requirements.

Its excellent adhesion to suitably prepared damp or dry surfaces makes it a practical option for many building, renovation and construction projects. Substrates must not be saturated with standing water, and moisture content must not exceed the manufacturer's specified limit of 30%.

Suitable for a Range of Substrates

Crommelin WB2K can be applied to suitably prepared concrete, cement render, brickwork, blockwork, metal, plaster, wet-area Gyprock, wet-area fibre cement, wet-area particleboard and Scyon substrates. Correct surface preparation is essential to achieve reliable adhesion and long-term performance. A trial application and adhesion test are recommended before coating the full area.

Coverage, Mixing Ratio and Application

Crommelin WB2K requires two coats, with a recommended coverage rate of approximately 5–7 m² per litre per coat. The product has a 1:1 mixing ratio by volume and is supplied in pre-measured two-component kits. Allow approximately 4–6 hours between coats under suitable conditions, and allow 24 hours before applying compatible waterproofing membranes or other coatings. Full cure is approximately seven days at the stated test conditions.

Apply between 10°C and 25°C, avoiding relative humidity above 85% during the initial curing phase and conditions where rain is expected before curing. The mixed product has an approximate pot life of 25–45 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity.

Available Kit Sizes

Crommelin WB2K is available in 8 L and 20 L kits, making it suitable for a range of smaller waterproofing projects and larger commercial or industrial applications. Select the appropriate kit quantity based on the prepared surface area, substrate porosity, specified coverage and the requirement for two coats.

Looking for a water-based epoxy moisture barrier for concrete floors, rising damp control or preparation before waterproofing? Crommelin WB2K offers a versatile solution for builders, contractors, applicators and property maintenance professionals working on residential, commercial and industrial projects throughout Australia.

For Australian projects, confirm substrate suitability, moisture conditions and compatibility with the intended waterproofing membrane or floor finish before application. Always follow the latest Crommelin technical data sheet and full application instructions.

Q1. What is Crommelin WB2K used for?

Crommelin WB2K is a two-component water-based epoxy used as a concrete primer, floor sealer and moisture barrier. It helps control rising damp and moisture vapour and can be used before compatible waterproofing membranes and floor finishes.

Q2. How much does Crommelin WB2K cover?

The recommended coverage is approximately 5–7 m² per litre per coat. With two coats, an 8 L kit covers approximately 20–28 m², while a 20 L kit covers approximately 50–70 m². Actual coverage varies depending on substrate porosity, surface texture and application conditions.

Q3. Can Crommelin WB2K be applied to damp concrete?

Yes. WB2K can be applied to suitably prepared damp or dry surfaces. The substrate must not have standing water, and its moisture content must not exceed 30%. Always confirm the substrate condition and follow the manufacturer's preparation instructions.

Q4. How many coats of Crommelin WB2K are required?

Two coats are recommended. Allow approximately 4–6 hours between coats under suitable conditions. Allow at least 24 hours before applying compatible waterproofing membranes or other coatings.

Q5. Can Crommelin WB2K be used as a moisture barrier under timber flooring?

Yes. The technical data sheet identifies moisture vapour barrier applications beneath timber floors. Confirm compatibility with the timber flooring adhesive and flooring system, and ensure the substrate and moisture conditions meet the manufacturer's requirements.

Product information is based on the Crommelin WB2K Technical Data Sheet dated December 2023 and is provided as a general guide only. Coverage rates are approximate and may vary depending on substrate porosity, surface preparation, application method and site conditions. Confirm product suitability, substrate moisture levels and compatibility with subsequent coatings or waterproofing systems before use. Always consult the latest manufacturer's Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet and follow all application and safety instructions.
