Where to Use P5 Slip Rating

P5 is designed for extreme slip-risk areas where maximum traction is critical. Ideal for:

  • Commercial kitchens & food preparation areas
  • Greasy or oily floors (workshops, service bays)
  • Steep external ramps or loading docks
  • Brewery, winery & beverage production floors
  • Fish markets, butchers & seafood processing areas
  • Wash bays

P5 provides the highest wet pendulum slip rating but has a textured finish. For barefoot comfort or easier cleaning, consider non slip clear pro P3 or non slip clear pro P4 in suitable areas.

Stellmann Prep & Maintenance Cleaner sold separately, required to achieve best results.

Mix ratio:

5 to 1. Stellmann Non-Slip Clear Part A = 5 and Part B is 1.

Calculation: multiply the amount of Part A in the mixing cup by 0.2. The result is the amount of Part B that needs to be added. Alternatively, multiply the amount of Part A in the mixing cup by 1.2. The result is the total amount that needs to be reached by adding Part B. Example: 200 grams of Part A is added in a mixing cup. Add 40 grams of Part B. Calculation method 1: 0.2 x 200 = 40 grams. Method 2: 1.2 x 200 = 240.

How to Apply

  • Clean: Prep your surface using Stellmann Prep & Maintenance Cleaner — removes oils, soap, and grime for maximum grip.
  •  Prime: Apply the included primer with a sponge or mop.
  •  Coat: Roll on Non-Slip Clear PRO evenly. Dries in 12 hours — ready to use, fully P5-safe.

**Important: P5 Slip Rating Application Instructions**

Do not add the entire contents of the Stellmann Non-Slip P5 Particles container into the coating mixture. Doing so may result in an uneven surface finish, improper curing, and failure to achieve the P5 slip rating.

Correct Particle Addition for P5 Rating

- Ratio: Add 3% by weight of Stellmann Non-Slip P5 Particles relative to the combined weight of Part A and Part B of the coating system.
- Mixing Procedure: Mix Part A and Part B as instructed above with a mixing cup on an electronic precision scale.
- Determine required particle weight using one of the following formulas
Total Final Weight Method: Multiply the combined weight of Part A and B by 1.05. This yields the final total weight, including the required amount of P5 Particles.
Particle-Only Method: Multiply the combined weight of Part A and B by 0.05. This gives the exact weight of P5 Particles to be added.
- It is recommended to spray apply larger areas that require a P5 slip-rating.

IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS

Please carefully read the Data Sheet, Material Safety Data Sheet, and any precautionary labels on the containers before use.

  • Do not apply in exterior situations when rain threatens.
  • Do not apply when relative humidity is above 85% or is likely to go above 85% shortly after application.
  • Do not apply to areas with faulty waterproofing or high moisture content.
  • For outdoor applications, it is recommended to start in the later morning.
  • Do not start application in direct sun when warmer than 30 degrees Celsius; consider spray application (HVLP) in these conditions.
  • Avoid application in the late afternoon (check humidity and weather forecast).
  • Practical spreading rates will vary depending on application method, surface roughness, and porosity.
  • Suitable for application over bare substrate and water-based coatings.

Understanding slip ratings

Contact us if you are unsure about the slip-rating you require.

  • P3 Soft: Ideal for shopping malls, food courts, offices, hotel lobbies, residential living rooms, internal staircases, and other areas not frequently exposed to water that require a P3 slip-rating which is easy to maintain.
  • P3: Suitable for residential showers, bathrooms, residential kitchens, interior stairs, toilet and bathroom facilities in offices, hotels and shopping centres, interior entry areas, bathrooms and en-suites in hospitals and aged care facilities, and communal changing rooms.
  • P4: Recommended for outdoor entry areas, walkways, external ramps including sloping driveways, foot paths, etc., external carpark areas, pedestrian crossings, balconies, verandas, courtyards, serving areas, behind bars in hotels and pubs, and swimming pool surrounds and communal shower rooms.
  • P5: External ramps including sloping driveways, footpaths etc. Steeper than 1 in 14, loading docks undercover and commercial kitchens

Application of stellmann non slip coating to metal

Applying Stellmann Non-Slip coatings to metals, such as steel and aluminium, can be challenging due to their inherently smooth surfaces and limited bonding for coatings. To enhance adhesion, the use of a primer is essential, providing a chemical or mechanical bond between the coating and the metal. However, to achieve a similar adhesion of our coating to metals as to surfaces such as tiles, concrete, vinyl, or marble, it is recommended to sand the surface first.

Surface Preparation

Before applying Stellmann Non-Slip coatings to metal surfaces, it is recommended to sand the surface with a 400 grit pad to increase the surface area and improve primer and coating adhesion.

 Primer Application

A standard Stellmann Clear Primer is a water-based primer is suitable for use on metals. Alternatively, the Mipa Coatings 1K Haftpromoter Primer, a single-component, solvent-based option, is also effective and available from Mipa Australia.

Application

Refer to the Stellman Non-Slip Clear PRO Technical Data Sheet for the installation instructions.

 Galvanised Steel / Raised Profiles

Please be aware that galvanized steel and other metals with raised profiles are more susceptible to accelerated wear. The sharp edges and points on these raised areas, combined with their limited surface area, create higher levels of mechanical stress and abrasion compared to flat surfaces. This additional stress can result in faster wear and deterioration of the coating, as raised profiles are more exposed to friction, impacts, and external elements like weathering or abrasive contact.

Colour Accuracy Disclaimer: We have taken care to display the most accurate visuals of our products. However, we are not responsible for the colour accuracy of the device you are viewing our swatches on. These variations arise due to different computer monitors and devices (make, model and technology, as well as resolution, contrast and brightness control settings) in much the same way a scan will differ from an original image and a colour photocopy. Furthermore, coatings can exhibit variation in perceived colour depending on gloss level and application method. If you require a very specific colour match, please make your selection via actual swatches and colour boards available at our showroom.

Product Disclaimer: Ensure you read all product, technical and safety data sheets prior to application as liability falls on the applicator. All products must be applied in accordance with manufacturer’s recommended method.
