Important Considerations

  • Apply at +20°C for best workability
  • Avoid application during rapid temperature changes
  • Test paint compatibility before overcoating
  • Allow full cure before painting
  • Colour variations may occur from chemicals, heat or UV exposure
  • Use mechanical fixings for overhead or heavy components
  • Provide temporary support for very heavy items during curing
  • Full-surface bonding is not recommended
  • Not suitable for bitumen, natural rubber, EPDM or substrates that leach plasticisers
  • Not suitable for PE, PP, PTFE/Teflon or certain plasticised materials
  • Not for swimming pools, submerged joints or water-pressure areas
  • Not for sanitary joints, glass sealing or trafficked floor joints
  • Not for structural bonding or exposed structural glass
  • Keep uncured product away from alcohol-containing products

Substrate Preparation

Surfaces must be clean, dry, sound and free from dust, oil, grease, laitance, old sealant or weak material. Use wire brushing, grinding or mechanical cleaning. Repair damaged areas using suitable Sika repair mortars. Remove all dust before applying activators, primers or sealant.

Priming & Pretreatment

For high-performance or critical applications, follow the priming recommendations below:

Non-Porous Substrates

  • Aluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, galvanised steel, glazed tiles: Light abrasion → clean → Sika Aktivator-205
  • Brass, bronze, copper, titanium-zinc: Light abrasion → clean → Sika Aktivator-205 → Sika Primer-3 N
  • Powder-coated metals: Perform adhesion tests
  • PVC: Clean → Sika Primer-215

Porous Substrates

  • Concrete, aerated concrete, cement renders, mortar, brick: Apply Sika® Primer-3 N (avoid puddling)

Note: Primers and activators promote adhesion and durability but do not replace proper cleaning and preparation. Always refer to relevant technical datasheets for detailed guidance.

How To Videos:

Can I use Sikaflex®-11 FC+ outdoors?

Yes. Sikaflex®-11 FC+ is suitable for a wide range of outdoor applications. Common uses include soundproofing pipes between concrete and sheathing, bonding and sealing concrete elements, timber, and most standard construction materials.

Can I paint over Sikaflex®-11 FC+?

Yes, it is paintable. However, because paint formulations vary, it is recommended to test compatibility on a small area first to ensure proper adhesion and finish.

What can I use to glue my concrete birdbath?

Sikaflex®-11 FC+ is an excellent choice. It will bond the birdbath components together and also seal joints to help retain water, thanks to its elastic adhesive-sealant properties.

Why choose Sikaflex®-11 FC+ over other products?

Construction materials such as concrete and timber expand and contract with seasonal and climate changes. These subtle structural movements can cause cracking or failure if the adhesive cannot flex.

Sikaflex®-11 FC+ uses advanced polyurethane technology that remains permanently flexible, allowing it to accommodate ongoing movement and provide long-lasting performance.

Is Sikaflex®-11 FC+ resistant to water and chemicals?

Sikaflex®-11 FC+ is resistant to:

  • Water and seawater
  • Diluted alkalis
  • Cement grout
  • Water-dispersed detergents

It is not resistant to:

  • Alcohols
  • Organic acids
  • Concentrated alkalis or concentrated acids
  • Chlorinated hydrocarbons
  • Fuel and similar chemicals

What is the minimum thickness for application?

  • As an adhesive: A minimum adhesive thickness of 1 mm is required. The gap must not be smaller than 1 mm, and forced compression should be avoided.
  • As a sealant: Minimum application thickness should be 4 mm for optimal performance.

Do I need to use a primer?

Using a primer is recommended, as it promotes stronger adhesion and improves long-term joint durability. Refer to the Sikaflex®-11 FC+ pre-treatment chart to select the correct primer for your substrate.

Colour Accuracy Disclaimer: We have taken care to display the most accurate visuals of our products. However, we are not responsible for the colour accuracy of the device you are viewing our swatches on. These variations arise due to different computer monitors and devices (make, model and technology, as well as resolution, contrast and brightness control settings) in much the same way a scan will differ from an original image and a colour photocopy. Furthermore, coatings can exhibit variation in perceived colour depending on gloss level and application method. If you require a very specific colour match, please make your selection via actual swatches and colour boards available at our showroom.

Product Disclaimer: Ensure you read all product, technical and safety data sheets prior to application as liability falls on the applicator. All products must be applied in accordance with manufacturer’s recommended method.
