Important Considerations

  • Only suitable for use by professional wood floor applicators.
  • Adhesive temperature should be ≥ +15 °C for good workability.
  • Sufficient ambient humidity/moisture is necessary for proper curing.
  • Preliminary adhesion test required on glazed tiles.
  • Specific priming requirements for non-insulated areas (refer to Technical Service).
  • Consult Technical Service for chemically pre-treated wood or wood with high oil content.
  • Do not use on PE, PP, PTFE (Teflon), and similar plasticized synthetics.
  • Some primers can negatively influence adhesion (pre-trials recommended).
  • Designed as a wood floor bonding adhesive; avoid extrusion into joints of parquet without tongue and groove.
  • Avoid contact between wood surface sealers and adhesive; check compatibility if unavoidable.
  • Do not expose uncured adhesive to alcohol-containing products.
  • Refer to Technical Service for further information and advice.

Application Instructions

For the application of SikaBond-58 Wood Floor all standard construction guidelines apply. For further information, please refer to the Method Statement "Full Surface Bonding".

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

  • The substrate must be clean, dry, sound, and homogeneous, free from oils, grease, dust, and loose or friable particles. Paint, cement laitance, and other poorly adhering contaminants must be removed.
  • Concrete and/or cement screeds must be ground and thoroughly cleaned with an industrial vacuum.
  • Anhydrite screeds, including flowable anhydrite screeds, must be ground and thoroughly cleaned with an industrial vacuum shortly before bonding.
  • Broadcast mastic asphalt must be primed with Sika Primer MR Fast or Sika Primer MB (refer to relevant Product Data Sheet).
  • Glazed ceramic and old existing ceramic tiles must be degreased and cleaned with Sika Aktivator-205, or the tile surfaces must be ground and then thoroughly cleaned with an industrial vacuum.
  • Wood and/or gypsum boards must be glued and/or screwed to the substructure. For floating dry-floors, contact Technical Service.
  • For other substrates, contact Technical Service for advice.
  • For broadcasted mastic asphalt, cement-based floors with excessive moisture, over old adhesive residues, or on weak substrates, use Sika Primer MB (refer to Technical Service for details).

APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS

Full Surface Bonding with a Trowel:

  • SikaBond-58 Wood Floor is applied directly from the pail to properly prepared substrates and uniformly spread with a notched trowel.
  • SikaBond-58 Wood Floor can also be applied from foil packs using an application gun.
  • Press the wood floor pieces firmly into the adhesive so that the wood floor underside is completely covered with the adhesive. The pieces can then be joined together using a hammer and an impact block. Many types of wood floors also have to be tapped into position from above. A distance of 10−15 mm from the wall to the wood floor must be maintained.

The floor shall be walked on and/or sanded 24 hours after installation (23 °C / 50% r.h. up to 1 mm adhesive thickness depending on environmental conditions and adhesive layer thickness).

Fresh, uncured adhesive on the wood floor surface must be removed immediately with a clean cloth and, if necessary, also cleaned with Sika Remover-208 or Sika TopClean T. Always test wood floor surfaces for compatibility with Sika Cleaner-208 before use. The guidelines of the wood floor manufacturer apply.

CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT

Clean all tools and application equipment immediately after use with Sika Remover-208 and/or Sika TopClean T. Once cured, residual material can only be removed mechanically.

Colour Accuracy Disclaimer: We have taken care to display the most accurate visuals of our products. However, we are not responsible for the colour accuracy of the device you are viewing our swatches on. These variations arise due to different computer monitors and devices (make, model and technology, as well as resolution, contrast and brightness control settings) in much the same way a scan will differ from an original image and a colour photocopy. Furthermore, coatings can exhibit variation in perceived colour depending on gloss level and application method. If you require a very specific colour match, please make your selection via actual swatches and colour boards available at our showroom.

Product Disclaimer: Ensure you read all product, technical and safety data sheets prior to application as liability falls on the applicator. All products must be applied in accordance with manufacturer’s recommended method.
